Understanding Adult ADHD
You May Have Been Struggling Longer Than You Realize

Most adults with ADHD weren't diagnosed as kids. They learned to compensate — working harder, staying up later, running on caffeine and willpower. For a while, it works. Then it doesn't. A new job, a relationship, a kid, a promotion — and suddenly the systems that kept you functional stop working.

Adult ADHD affects attention, organization, time management, emotional regulation, and the ability to finish what you start. It shows up at work as missed deadlines and difficulty prioritizing. At home as forgotten appointments and half-finished projects. In relationships as distraction and frustration that's hard to explain.

If your PCP said they can't keep prescribing your Adderall and you need a psychiatrist — you're in the right place. If you've never been evaluated but you've spent years wondering why everything feels harder for you than it seems to for everyone else — you're also in the right place.

We see adults with suspected or diagnosed ADHD throughout Florida via telehealth, with appointments available within 1–2 days. We serve patients across the state — and specifically the Manatee County, Sarasota County, and Bradenton-Sarasota corridor, where dedicated ADHD specialists are scarce.

Recognizing the Signs
Common Signs of Adult ADHD

If several of these sound familiar, a psychiatric evaluation may help clarify what's going on.

✓ Difficulty sustaining attention on tasks that aren't inherently interesting
✓ Losing things constantly — keys, phone, wallet, documents
✓ Starting many projects but struggling to finish them
✓ Hyperfocusing on certain tasks while completely losing track of others
✓ Chronic lateness or difficulty managing time accurately
✓ Impulsive decisions — purchases, statements, interruptions
✓ Emotional dysregulation — frustration that flares quickly
✓ Difficulty following multi-step instructions or procedures
✓ Feeling restless or unable to relax even when you want to
✓ A long history of underperforming relative to your actual ability
What to Expect
Your Path to Treatment

A straightforward process — no surprises.

1
Comprehensive Evaluation
Your first appointment is a 60-minute psychiatric interview covering your history, symptoms, functional impairments, prior treatments, and any co-occurring conditions. We review everything — not just your ADHD checklist score.
2
Objective Testing When Appropriate
For some patients, we recommend QbCheck — an FDA-cleared objective ADHD test that measures attention, impulsivity, and activity. It adds clinical data beyond self-report and can be especially useful when the picture is ambiguous.
3
Diagnosis and Treatment Plan
If ADHD is diagnosed, we develop a treatment plan based on your specific presentation — which may include medication, behavioral strategies, and referrals to therapy or coaching when appropriate.
4
Ongoing Medication Management
Follow-up visits monitor how treatment is working, adjust dosing as needed, and address any concerns. Most patients are seen monthly initially, then less frequently as things stabilize.
Medication
Will You Prescribe Stimulants?

This is the question most ADHD patients want answered before they book — and most practices make you wait until the appointment to find out.

The answer is yes — when clinically appropriate. Stimulant medications including amphetamine salts and methylphenidate are first-line treatments for ADHD and are prescribed when the clinical evaluation supports it. We don't have a blanket policy against stimulants, and we won't make you feel like a drug seeker for asking.

Non-stimulant options including atomoxetine and guanfacine are FDA-approved alternatives when stimulants aren't appropriate or preferred. Bupropion may also be considered off-label in select cases. Treatment is individualized — not protocol-driven.

Prescriptions are based on clinical evaluation. They're never guaranteed, but they're never withheld without good clinical reason.

Common Questions
What Patients Ask
No. You can book an evaluation whether you've been previously diagnosed or have never been formally assessed. A prior diagnosis is useful history — it doesn't automatically determine the outcome of your evaluation.
The initial evaluation is approximately 60 minutes. In some cases, more than one appointment is needed before a diagnosis is confirmed. This is good clinical practice, not a delay tactic.
That history matters and informs your treatment plan. We review what was tried, at what doses, for how long, and why it didn't work — and use that information to guide what comes next.
Yes. You must be physically located in Florida at the time of your telehealth appointment. This is a legal requirement for prescribing controlled substances across state lines.
Yes. We're happy to communicate with other providers involved in your care with your written consent.
From Our Fullscript Dispensary
Supplements We Recommend for ADHD

The evidence for ADHD supplements is more limited than for anxiety or depression — and we'll be straight with you about that. These three have the best current evidence and are worth considering alongside medication or when medication isn't the right fit. Available through our Fullscript dispensary — professional-grade, third-party tested.

High-EPA Omega-3
1–2 g EPA/day · Attention and cognitive support
The most consistently evidenced supplement for ADHD. Adults with ADHD often have lower omega-3 levels, and multiple studies show modest but real improvements in attention when baseline levels are low. Very safe, broadly beneficial, and a reasonable first step for almost any patient.
Zinc Picolinate
15–30 mg/day · Dopamine pathway support
Zinc is directly involved in dopamine synthesis — the core neurotransmitter in ADHD. Lower zinc levels are consistently found in ADHD populations, and RCT evidence supports symptom improvement, particularly for hyperactivity and impulsivity. Most benefit seen when baseline zinc is low.
Broad-Spectrum Micronutrient Formula
Per protocol · Multi-pathway support
This formula addresses multiple nutrient gaps — magnesium, zinc, B6, vitamin D, and others — that are implicated in ADHD neurobiology simultaneously. Unlike generic multivitamins, this specific formulation has been tested in ADHD-specific RCTs. Best suited as an adjunct or for patients exploring alternatives to medication.
Before You Start
  • Zinc: check serum zinc before starting. Do not exceed 40 mg/day long-term without copper co-supplementation.
  • Medication and behavioral therapy have far stronger evidence for ADHD than supplements.
  • These supplements are best used as adjuncts or when deficiency has been identified.
